fig 3. Massive Attack

Born from Bristol’s revolutionary early 90s DJ and Soundsystem culture, Massive Attack created a new hypnotic sound that went on to define the scene itself: a darkly sensual and cinematic fusion of hip-hop rhythms, soulful melodies, dub grooves, and choice samples. The group created some of the most influential and trendsetting sounds of their era, with the groundbreaking albums Blue Lines (1991) Protection (1994) and Mezzanine (1998) informing decades' worth of acclaimed artists.
